06年年尾Annke姐宣佈自己離開The Gathering這個震撼消息後,許多樂迷都紛紛預期The Gathering會否玩完女聲之後,再一次重投樂隊早期純正歌德金屬之懷抱?會否轉(其實,用轉這個字不太恰當,The Gathering一早就是男死腔起家的.)回用男聲?更重要的,就是新主音的下任人選,會是哪一位呢?

一切答案,全部都在TG的9th album"The West Pole"中找得到.

首先,樂迷最關注的主音位置誰屬,TG終於在今年3月10日有了人選,但結果是頗意外的--------她就是挪威的全女doom metal band Octavia Sperati的女主音Silje Wergeland.雖然Siije的唱功不容置疑,她的獨特聲線其實不下於Annke,高低和音均能勝任,不過我比較難解的卻是原本OP現在玩得好地地的,而OP的頭兩張專輯都獲得不少好評,這正是樂隊要發力的時候,何解Silje會捨得放棄自己有份的OP而屈身其人門下?或許是現在TG多錢得可以"挖角"了吧....?

其次就是樂隊風格.好彩地,TG新作仍然保持著自Souvenirs以來的trip hop / post rock路線,而且越變越好聽,今作雖然是重型了一點,但仍然無損TG這種有點似後期脫去重型riff的Alice In Chain + Mew的softy混合版的獨特風格.坦白說,我就真的不太想TG再重玩以往玩過的曲風,我比較喜歡現在TG的路線有內涵----那種從曲子的簡單旋律裡散發出來,需要你慢慢去品味的內省歌詞及emotional的旋律,沒有10多年以上的修為功力,很難玩出那種世故的味道來.

不過,專輯在其webshop賣了不多久,樂隊就出了一招騙錢技倆,趁勢推出一張叫"City From Above"的EP,加多了3首在專輯中沒有的曲目為招徠,結果當然是死得人多(包括我在內),原本我想待The End代理發行美版,不過要6月才會有美版,而且今次TG還轉了東家去了Season Of Mist(超貴耶!!)....OMG. 最後,我還是直接在官網訂了The West Pole的package,免得煩!!

祝願Silje今次加入TG會一切順利吧!!(3年不出碟,真的是餓了很久......)
